New York’s current domestic violence shelter system makes it incredibly difficult for single adult survivors of domestic and gender-based violence to access life-saving shelter. Without this critical resource, survivors fleeing violence and abuse are left with few, if any, options to find safety and healing. This disproportionately hurts LGBTQ+ survivors, trafficking survivors, and older adults—survivors more likely to seek shelter without children.

Right now, Albany is preparing New York’s budget. We want your Assembly Member and State Senator to hear from you that the SAFE Shelter Act must be included in this year’s budget.
