Dear Governor Hochul,

New York’s current domestic violence shelter system makes it incredibly difficult for single adult survivors of domestic and gender-based violence to access life-saving shelter. Without this critical resource, survivors fleeing violence and abuse are left with few, if any, options to find safety and healing. This disproportionately hurts LGBTQ+ survivors, trafficking survivors, and older adults—survivors more likely to seek shelter without children.

Single survivors are told "try again later" over and over again, that there are no single rooms available because shelters need to keep empty beds open for families.

Governor Hochul, please don’t make survivors wait any longer: Sign SAFE Shelter into law today.
